Discord has begun rolling out Text Chat in Voice Channels, a feature that will give each voice conversation on the messaging platform its own text chat.

This feature will prevent the need for servers to create dedicated channels that are used by participants during voice chats. It should also prevent voice chat participants from sharing messages in more “general” channels that lack context for those who aren’t participating in the same chat.

Server owners and moderators will be able to customize permissions for their voice channel chats. For instance, they’ll be able to allow or prevent users from uploading files or media in a chat.

This feature is being slowly rolled out across the Discord platform. Currently, all Discord servers that haven’t become a Community server will be able to access the Text Chat in Voice Channels feature automatically. Servers that have become a Community server will be able to opt-in to use the feature.

By June 29, all servers, including Community servers, will have this feature enabled.

Text Chat in Voice Channels will be available on all platforms, including desktop and mobile devices.
