What's Next for Verizon Media After the $5 Billion Sale to Apollo?

Ad tech business may end up elsewhere, for the right price

Verizon Media faced advertisers at the IAB NewFronts only a day after its parent company Verizon said it will sell the business to Apollo Global Management for $5 billion.

Guru Gowrappan, CEO of Verizon Media, appeared on the virtual stage, in Yahoo-branded garb, for less than 90 seconds and told potential clients “we’re as committed to your success as we’ve ever been.”

What followed was a roughly 30 minute pre-recorded presentation that made no further mention of the deal, where Verizon Media sales executives and Yahoo talent pitched multi-platform content and ad targeting–offerings that are already in the market.

But that pitch may change once Verizon Media, which will rebrand as Yahoo once the deal is done, folds into Apollo’s portfolio, which is expected to close in the second half of 2021.
