Before you take a photo or video in Instagram Stories, you have the option to add an effect, or filter, to the screen. For instance, one effect may add a mask to your face, while another may cause snowflakes to appear on the screen.
When viewing the Instagram Stories camera, the application will show you a few featured effects next to the Stories capture button. However, did you know that you can browse a large Effect Gallery to see more of the effects that you can choose from? Our guide will show you how this is done.
Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram app on iOS. Also keep in mind that you can also access the Effect Gallery when creating Instagram Reels.
Step 1: On the Instagram Stories camera, swipe from right to left on the effects to the right of the capture button until you get to the end of the list.
Step 2: Tap the “Browse Effects” icon (the magnifying glass). This will open the Effect Gallery.
Step 3: Tap the effect you want to use. Note: You can tap categories at the top of the screen to view effects that fit into specific themes, like “Love” and Selfies.” You can also tap the magnifying glass in the top-right corner of the screen to search for an effect manually.
Step 4: Tap “Try It” in the bottom-left corner of the screen to use this effect on your next post.
Step 5: Tap or tap and hold the capture button to take a photo or video with this active effect. Note: If you’ve chosen an effect that is applied to someone’s face, you will need to set up your shot before tapping the capture button.
