The Top 10 Things Overheard at The Hill's '50 Most Beautiful' Celebration
Last night at Poste, The Hill celebrated its annual “50 Most Beautiful” list, a nod to this town’s most beautiful – or not – members of Congress, Congressional staffers, campaign aides, lobbyists, and other Capitol Hill/executive branch employees.
Many of the 50 selected were in attendance, although the five Representatives and two Senators who made the list were not. Either was White House press secretary Josh Earnest. Or FOX News’ Bret Baier or CNN’s S.E. Cupp. But CBS News’ Nancy Cordes and NBC News’ Kristen Welker were there.
Guests who entered through Poste’s entrance (and not Hotel Monaco) first stumbled upon a step and repeat for anyone but mostly those who made the list. The gathering took place on Poste’s outdoor patio amid perfect weather and included remarks from the recently announced new Hill editor in chief Bob Cusack. Guests noshed on shrimp cocktail, gourmet sandwiches, and passed hors d’oeuvre and enjoyed an open bar that seemed to reopen several times.
Conversation was comical. Especially if you stood near strangers and wrote down the laughable things you could hear them say. And with that brings us “The Top 10 Things Overheard at The Hill’s ’50 Most Beautiful Celebration.”
10 – “Oh my God! My sister keeps sharing it and it’s so embarrassing,” referring to The List, published that morning.
9 – Asked by someone, “How was today?” a member of The List replied, “Simply amazing.”
8 – “I totally forgot about the announcement until I woke up to a bunch of text messages,” to which another Listee enthusiastically replied, “Same!”
7 – “Let’s take a blue wristband photo” referring to the color wristband List members wore. Non-members wore white wristbands.
6 – Another person in the group was overheard saying, “We’re going to have to have a blue wristband reunion.”
5 – And later, a person from the same group asked an attendee, “What color wristband do you have?”
4 – And later, a white wristband wearer in the same group said, “I just want to meet more blue wristband people.”
3 – One of two girls on The List: “Let’s take our picture in front of our picture.”
2 – A well-known person on The List: “My kids are being such assholes.”
1 – And just before leaving, a girl crying at the bar said, “If you like it then you should put a fucking ring on it.” Noted.
