Salt-Lake Tribune Accuses Man of Making Up Scholarship

Here’s a strange story coming out of Utah. The Salt Lake Tribune has filed a police report to stop a door-to-door scam where at least one person is claiming he needs donations to help with a scholarship offered by the newspaper.

Here are the details, as reported by The Salt Lake Tribune.

The man in his late teens or early 20s reportedly tells people responding to his visits that he has received a scholarship sponsored by the newspaper, and that The Tribune would match any donations by the resident.

The young man wears a badge with the newspaper’s logo.

According to deputy editor Tim Fitzpatrick, the paper doesn’t sponsor a scholarship program that includes matches from donors.

Times are tough out there in the media industry, but making up scholarships is a new one.
