ROWE, ROWE, ROWE Your Boat

The Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE) movement is gathering steam. Started at Best Buy in 2006 with a secret pilot program, it was eventually rolled out to 3,000 employees at the company’s headquarters, and other companies are following suit.

What is ROWE, exactly? It’s essentially telecommuting combined with flextime: as long as your work gets done, you decide when and how to do it.

HRE Online investigates the state of ROWE in the magazine’s latest issue.

ROWE, says Chris Ferdinandi, writer of the popular blog RenegadeHR, assumes that employees have the time-management skills needed to set their own schedules, but in reality, not everyone can do that.
