Publishers Petition White House to End Cuba Book Embargo

"We ask Congress and the president to lift the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba related to the production, distribution, and sale of books and educational materials."

Dozens of book industry executives have signed a petition urging the White House to end the Cuba embargo for books.

The petition is signed by industry types from companies such as Penguin Random House, Turner Publishing Company, Hachette Book Group and Simon & Schuster.

Those signing the petition argue that “The U.S. trade embargo is harmful to book culture and runs counter to American ideals of free expression” and “Books are catalysts for greater cross-cultural understanding, economic development, free expression, and positive social change.”

It all sounds great, so let’s all agree not to mention that this is mostly about money.
