Possible Editor in Chief Replacements at Architectural Digest

Yesterday, Conde Nast announced that long-tenured Architectural Digest editor in chief Paige Rense Noland would retire in August. At that time, Conde had not mentioned a replacement, and now the New York Observer has fired up the speculation machine, coming up with four reasonable candidates.

On the short list:

The New Yorker architecture critic Paul Goldberger, who the Observer reports is well acquainted with Victoria Newhouse, wife of Conde Nast chairman Si.
Elle Decor editor in chief Margaret Russell. For more on her, check out this mediabistro.com Q&A.
• UK Elle Decor founding editor Ilse Crawford, who is now a designer.
• Deborah Needleman, who edited Domino before the Conde Nast shelter mag went busto in 2009.
