LIN TV Launches BlackBerry App

LIN TV has expanded its mobile offerings, introducing a BlackBerry application for for its 27 TV stations. Leveraging technology from News Over Wireless, LIN TV announced Friday (Aug. 7) the launch of the new application for six of its stations, including WISH-TV in Indianapolis, WAVY-TV in Portsmouth-Norfolk, Va., KRQE-TV in Albuquerque, WANE-TV in Ft. Wayne, Ind., WALA-TV in Mobile-Pensacola, Fla., and KXAN-TV in Austin, Tex. Apps for the rest of the group’s station will follow.

With the launch, LIN TV stations becomes the first in their local markets to provide BlackBerry subscribers on-demand access to local news, sports, entertainment, weather and traffic. Recently LIN TV, in partnership with NOW, unveiled the group’s custom iPhone application.

“Launching an application for BlackBerry is the natural next step in the evolution of LIN TV’s mobile business and will further our strategy to engage viewers any time of day and across any platform they may be viewing,” said Robb Richter, senior vp of new media for LIN TV. “We look forward to capitalizing on the tremendous population of BlackBerry users to increase brand loyalty and grow additional revenue streams, including national and local advertising.”

The mobile apps are available free of charge on LIN TV’s station Web sites.
