  • (UPDATED with information from NYT.) The NYT is conducting a layoff today of mostly up to 100 nonunion and up to 15 union-covered employees in an unnamed (but non-newsroom) department on the business side, the Newspaper Guild reports. The cause: the advertising slump. The good news:

    In some cases, managers have decided to lay off certain individuals out of seniority order, rather than offer buyouts. The contract permits that, but only if they follow the correct procedures.
