Lawmakers, Media to Ride Colbert Press Coattails

Stephen Colbert got yet another member of Congress – Rep. Zoe Lofgren – to play along with him last night on his show. The interview took place in what looked to be a  hayloft. Lofgren, a California Democrat, is one in a long line of lawmakers who haven’t heeded the warnings of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who, as Democratic Caucus Chair in 2007, began warning newly elected Dems to steer clear of risky” appearances on “The Colbert Report.”

At the time, Emanuel said, “It’s probably safer not to do it.” But this week is different – this week Colbert is set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee Friday and lawmakers and media are clamoring to get a piece of Colbert press.

“Are you saying Americans are p–ies?” Colbert asked Lofgren.

I would never say that, the congresswoman replied straight-faced. “I’d never say American’s are pu–ies.”

The gist of the interview centered on the rights of migrant farm workers, with Colbert asking Lofgren if she wanted to make a terror baby with him with a “roll in the hay.”

She declined.
