Film Critics React to Lafayette Movie Theater Shooting
Another incident, in the shadow of the Aurora shooting trial.
In the immediate aftermath of the latest U.S. mass shooting, HitFix’s Drew McWeeny tweeted this powerful reaction:
I can’t take it anymore. They’re shooting people in their churches. They’re shooting people in my church. No more. Take the guns. TAKE THEM.

McWeeny is familiar with the real-life side of American gun culture. As he subsequently explained, he grew up with guns and currently owns a weapon:
I have lived with guns my whole life. My father raised me with them. I have had range experience since I was eight. Take the goddamn guns. — ImperatorHitFixDrew (@DrewAtHitFix) July 24, 2015
I will trade ownership of a gun for the feeling that our common places are not killing boxes. Any day. Happily. Right this moment.

Meanwhile, Erik Childress, awards columnist for RogerEbert.com, posted a link to the scene below, from American President, where Michael Douglas as the President famously heralds his plan for a new crime bill.
