Introducing Zaha Hadid's New Shoes

Sure, you laugh when, in posts such as this one from the other day, we call Zaha Hadid a “super-prolific space cyborg” but then you hear such news as this about the starchitect’s new line of shoes for the footwear company, Melissa. Now who is laughing, huh? Because how else could someone so busy also be designing shoes from the future on the side without it being a case of space cyborgery? And while we would likely never wear them, like all things Hadid-made, we think they’re very attractive to look at from afar. We certainly would never go as negative as the Guardian who said this in relation to the new shoes:

Unfortunately, she is also known for not placing great store on the concept of practicality. Many of her designs have never made it off her easel and, most recently, her design for the 2012 London Olympics Aquatic Centre has been criticised for already being three times over budget and for what one report described as “maintenance concern over the timber ceiling in an aggressive pool-hall environment”.

We here at UnBeige know better than to criticize someone who probably has already developed a moon laser. And didn’t Jonathan Glacey put this Aquatic Center issue to bed already?
