Initial Unemployment Claims Slip by 27,000

The number of initial unemployment claims dropped to 451,000 last week, a slide of 27,000 from the previous week. It marks the lowest number of initial unemployment claims in two months.

Economist polled by Bloomberg expected the number to come in around 470,000 in initial claims, but the level is still much too high for a healthy economy.

“We need to see faster job growth in the private sector to really generate a robust recovery,” said senior economist at Ameriprise Financial Inc.
