David Chipperfield Proclaims End of (Most) Show-Off Architecture

When a starchitect tells you that the showy building boom is over, you know that’s probably not a good sign. Such is the case with David Chipperfield who, in an interview with Bloomberg, says the “wow factor” in design and building that we’ve experienced in recent times will largely evaporate, given that the world is now cash-strapped. But he doesn’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, saying the period we’re now at the end of was “liberating for the profession” but also created “a a lot of rubbish.”
