YouTube detailed some changes last week on how it will handle unlisted links going forward.

The Google-owned video site rolled out a security update in 2017 that generated new unlisted links and made those links harder for people to discover if the links were not shared with them.

Starting July 23, any unlisted videos that were uploaded before 2017 will be made private, but creators have the choice of opting out of this update and keeping their videos in their current states.

YouTube provided four options for creators to choose between by July 23:

  • Do nothing: Unlisted videos uploaded before 2017 will be set to private, meaning that they can only be seen by the creator and people chosen by the creator.
