WhatsApp Rolls Out Disappearing Messages

This message will self-destruct in seven days—but only if WhatsApp users want it to.

The Facebook-owned messaging application Thursday added the option of disappearing messages, which, when turned on, means that new messages to chats will be removed in seven days.

Each participant in one-on-one chats has the choice of turning disappearing messages on or off, while that responsibility falls to the administrator in groups.

WhatsApp said in a blog post Thursday, “We’re starting with seven days because we think it offers peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent, while remaining practical so you don’t forget what you were chatting about.
