Pushly, a customizable push notification channel for publishers, has hired former Disney executive Brendan Ripp as CEO.

Pushly, owned by V2 Ventures, sends web-based push alerts on behalf of publishers, collecting first-party data in the process. For a publisher with 2 million monthly unique visitors, Pushly estimates its products will generate $451,786 of additional revenue.

Top line

Ripp joins Pushly from his role as operating partner at investment firm Attention Capital. He has also worked at Disney and Time, Inc.

“He’s exactly the kind of executive Pushly needs because he understands the challenges digital media and content publishers face during this pivotal time of change,” said Marco Ilardi, managing partner of V2 Ventures.

Between the lines

Push alerts are increasingly being considered a standalone editorial product by publishers, with their own editorial teams and unique strategies.
