Facebook took steps to put some cracks in Iran-based hacker group Tortoiseshell.

Director of threat disruption David Agranovich and head of cyber espionage investigations Mike Dvilyanski said in a Newsroom post Thursday that the group had previously focused on the information technology industry in the Middle East, but it had been expanding its malicious activity to other regions and industries.

Facebook’s investigation found that Tortoiseshell was targeting military personnel and companies in the defense and aerospace industries, primarily in the U.S.
