Radio Veteran Valerie Smaldone ‘Excited’ About Off-Broadway Role

We told you yesterday about longtime radio personality Valerie Smaldone ready to appear off-Broadway.

Smaldone, the former longtime DJ at Clear Channel’s WLTW/Lite-FM, is joining the cast of Girl Talk: The Musical.

Even though Smaldone has had an extensive radio and voice-over career, she has acted throughout her life.

But this gig came about after she was approached by the producer on the referral from another producer.

“I chose the role, because I was so excited to be asked to be in the original cast of a new musical,” Smaldone tells FishbowlNY. “And the material made perfect sense because it is all about a radio show.”

Smaldone will play one of four women ending a radio show together after a 10-year run.

The role requires Smaldone to do singing and dancing. The show will feature hit songs from artists Beyonce´, Jennifer Lopez, and Carrie Underwood.

Smaldone, who stays connected to the Great White Way, contributes to theatermania.com along with other websites.

Smaldone’s day job is hosting an online talk show for WOR Radio.

Girl Talk opens in previews on November 3 at the Times Square Arts Center, with opening night set for November 14.

“It is an open run, and I will be performing most Thursday and Friday nights,” Smaldone says.
