Your Interview Crib Sheet

US News & World Report’s “On Careers” blog gives suggestions today on how to answer ten “tricky” interview questions. Some of them aren’t really that tricky—does anyone NOT know that the answer to “Tell me about yourself” doesn’t begin with “Well, I was born in a small town in Michigan…”?

Too, the answer to “Can you work under pressure?” includes a specific, concrete example, and “Where do you see yourself in five years?” shouldn’t be answered with “retired” or “I don’t know.”

But we wondered about this question:

“How would you react if I told you your interview so far was terrible?”

“On Careers” says “Recognize that this is a test to see if you get flustered. Say, mildly, that you would ask for reasons why.”

People actually ask this?! Seriously?
