The Young Turks Are Crowdfunding Their New Studio

The long and winding road continues for a program that began in 2002 as Sirius XM’s first original talk show.

The Young Turks, back to online-only, have moved from their Culver City Current TV digs to a corner of the massive YouTube Space LA. But the plan is to soon occupy a new studio, co-funded by $250,000 in Indiegogo donations.

The campaign launched this week and urges fans/donors to hashtag it with #IAmTYT. It’s smart of the Turks to use Indiegogo; even though it’s likely they will reach their Dec. 6 goal (at press time, they were already past $20,000), this way they can also hang on to any lesser total amount pledged.

A rep for TYT tells FishbowlNY the show will subsidize a significant, additional amount of the studio cost on top of the money crowdfunded. A donation of $5,000 comes with one of three show cameras named in the donor’s honor, while a top pledge of $50,000 stretches that personalization imprint to the entire studio (for a period of two years).

Let’s hope for TYT’s sake that if a celebrity decides to pony up the big bucks, it’s along the lines of a Bill Maher rather than a Donald Trump. Then again, cash is cash, right?
