Vase in Point: Kiki Smith for Steuben Glass

We’re still hoping that Reed Krakoff puts Kiki Smith‘s limited-edition Coach handbag into widespread production. Meanwhile, the artist has moved from canvas and leather to crystal and silver with a new collection of tattoo-inspired designs for Steuben Glass. The mouth-blown lead crystal vase (at right), hand-engraved with Smith’s interpretation of classic tattoo symbols, is the stunner of the collection. A snake winds its way up the body of the 16-inch-high vessel, which is also adorned with moths, flowers, a bird on a branch, and spikey stars, a Smith trademark.

Smith’s Tattoo Collection, which Steuben plans to launch on November 15th, also includes four desktop sculptures (a bird, an apple, a cat, and a snake) with sterling silver accents that double as jewelry.
