Urban Daddy’s Dufour Brings Us Naked PETA Exhibit

pamela.jpg Urban Daddy’s D.C. Editor Jeff Dufour alerts us to PETA’s Naked Ambition gallery show in Georgetown that runs from December 19 to January 9 — a weekend must for Dufour, we’re sure.

The 36 works of “art” include Pamela Anderson in a lettuce bikini and a reclining Kim Basinger, Eva Mendes and Alicia Silverstone.

You eat meat.

You might even have a bit of fur in your wardrobe (like that Russian hat from your diplomat days).

But you’re amenable to persuasion. And you have to admit: splashing the naked figures of Christy Turlington and Tyra Banks on billboards is an incredibly inspired means of message discipline.

Which brings us to Naked Ambition, a gallery show of nude portraits from 20 years of PETA’s skin-friendly (and fur-unfriendly) “Rather Go Naked” campaign, opening Saturday in Georgetown to further distract you from all that shopping you’ve been meaning to do.

Think of this as a bright, shining example of what political advocacy should be. Among the 36 works-a mixture of the original portraits and the final PETA ads-you’ll see a reclining Kim Basinger, Eva Mendes gazing back at you over her shoulder and Alicia Silverstone reclining (which seems to be a theme here). You’ll also see the Go-Go’s (who helped kick this project off the ground in 1989) and Pamela Anderson in a lettuce bikini, arguably the only time she’s been the most modest person in the room.

Word to the wise: show up at tomorrow’s 3pm grand opening, when Christian Serratos of Twilight fame will be on hand to unveil her new anti-fur poster. For her part, she’s leaning up against a tree, unadorned by clothing, in a misty forest.

Rarely does your Saturday night begin with Baywatch and Twilight.
Note: Naked Ambition, opens tomorrow, 202-333-1180.
