With Thor: The Dark World ready to premiere in U.S. theaters November 8, Gameloft announced the release of the action RPG mobile title to go along with it, complete with a game narrative co-written by the movie’s screenwriter, Christopher Yost.

The free-to-play game is now available in the App Store and Google Play, and follows Thor in what plays like a tower offense game, as you control the Marvel hero and a selection of allies in a hack and slash battle from world to world with the ultimate mission to stop the evil lord of the Dark Elves, Malekith.

As you tap your way through the game, you can unlock some cool old-school Thor costumes from various stages of his comic book life, as well as 10 different hammers to help you battle your way through victory. Special attacks can be used via various swipes of the touch screen, triggering lighting storms and explosions to help Thor and crew advance to the next area.

Support troops include an archer, a healer, and a brawler, and you can decide who you want to bring into battle alongside Thor before each level. Some of the later levels, you can bring up to five support troops, with early levels limiting you to one or two at a time. In addition to the troops, you can also add in individual allies from the movie, and you can take one of these allies with you per level. Allies include Loki, Odin, and Heimdall, each equipped with their own special weapons and attacks. The variation of allies and support troops actually really add to the replayability factor, because you can re-enter levels even after you’ve defeated them, seeing if you can earn more stars with a different lineup than previously unleashed.

And while the game doesn’t follow the upcoming movie scene for scene, it does follow some of the basic plot points leading up to the ultimate battle against Malekith, so if you don’t want to be bombarded with mobile spoilers, you might want to download the game after the movie hits theaters next week.
