In giving a summary of the roles David Halbfinger has had at The New York Times during his 20-year career there, international editor Michael Slackman and deputy international editor Greg Winter write, “Politics, violence, religion, culture, passion, relentless digging and compelling prose: all good preparation for one of the scrutinized (and most prestigious) jobs in journalism.”
At the Times, it is also one that has seen a lot of change in recent years. Halbfinger, who will begin after Labor Day, replaces Ian Fisher, who was named to the role in January.
