The Nation Signs 6-Year Deal With NewsGuild

It includes four months of paid paternal leave, regardless of gender.

The Nation and its union—The NewsGuild of New York—have signed a new, six-year contract. The deal involves 25 percent raises over the course of the contract and four months of paid paternal leave, regardless of gender.

For The Nation staffers, the paternal leave policy—almost unheard of in the media world—was an especially exciting aspect of the deal.

“The negotiating committee is very proud to have achieved a contract that not only protects our wages and healthcare, but also takes a major step forward in providing fully paid parental leave,” said Nation senior editor Emily Douglas, in an announcement.
