The Long Road Home For The Museum of Arts and Design

Try as they might, NY’s Museum of Arts and Design can’t please everyone. First artisans complained over the museum’s name change, from American Craft Museum, because it alienates the hand-hewn nature of its roots. Now preservationists are in a tizzy because of the museum’s highly controversial new address of 2 Columbus Circle. Regardless, MAD moves into its new home (computer rendering above) in 2008. Robin Pogrebin chronicles the museum’s trials–and triumphs–in today’s NY Times.

Two exhibitions are currently on show at the 53rd Street location: “Why? 25 Case Studies” and “Beyond Green: Toward a Sustainable Art” are up until May 7.
