Susan Tifft, Co-Writer of The Trust and The Patriarch, Dies at 59

Susan Tifft, coauthor of two major books on American newspaper families, passed away today. She was 59.

With her husband and fellow journalist Alex Jones, Tifft penned The Trust, a detailed look at the Sulzberger-Ochs family, which has run The New York Times since 1986. The pair also wrote The Patriarch, about the intrigue behind a newspaper family’s sale of the Louisville Courier-Journal to Gannett in 1986. Tifft had also written and edited for Time.

Tifft, who had cancer, chronicled her experiences at length in a blog
