Stockwell Leaves, Post Looking for Loudoun Reporter

From the announcement:

First, we are sorry to say goodbye to Jamie Stockwell, who is returning to her Texas roots to become criminal justice editor at the San Antonio Express-News. She will be missed both for her fine journalism and as a valued colleague. Jamie came to The Post as a summer intern in 1999, and stayed on to work as a reporter in Prince William and Prince George’s counties, and most recently in the Alexandria bureau. We regret her departure but wish her well.

Separately, Amy Gardner’s imminent move to Fairfax mean we now have an opening in Loudoun County for a local government and politics reporter. This is a vital beat in a fast-growing community that plays an increasingly important role in the Washington region and the future of The Post. Stories from Loudoun go often to the front page and Metro front, and we’re looking for reporters who can write regularly for those pages. The beat also offers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of one of the most exciting ventures underway in the company: WPNI’s building of an ambitious, hyperlocal Web site that will cover Loudoun County in high-tech, up-to-the-minute detail. The site will work closely with the Loudoun Extra, and with our reporters in the Leesburg bureau.

We are looking for a reporter adept at both daily coverage and enterprise, who can consistently deliver strong accountability stories. The successful candidate should be able to develop and maintain sources, and to break news. We are also looking for someone with an eye for the color and drama of local politics, and the capacity to find larger meaning in individual neighborhood tensions and disputes. Zoning, growth and development are enormous stories in Loudoun, as demonstrated by our recent investigative project, which already has spawned a major criminal investigation. The local government reporter will be at the center of this coverage.
No preferred candidate has emerged for this job. We expect to consider applicants from inside and outside the paper.
