In a move that could give brands and publishers more insight into what to tweet, Thursday Twitter rolled out Analytics For Twitter Cards. The dashboard shows impressions, URL clicks, and app installs of a publisher’s tweets and mentions by other users, as well as easy ways to measure favorites, retweets and follows. CNET Twitter Cards allow certain users (including CNET) to post rich content, such as videos, links, pictures, content previews, and more, in their tweets. With the analytics tool, these users can see how their tweets and the content included in them are being consumed. Re/code Speaking of Cards, I’d watch what Twitter does with them in the coming weeks. It’s working on a deal with payments startup Stripe, which I imagine will result in a new type of commerce-related Card for developers to use, ultimately allowing for selling items inside of tweets. Adweek “Small changes –– using a different Twitter Card, conversing more with the followers who love your content, or installing or changing the location of a Tweet button –– can make a big difference,” Twitter said. The first partners to use the new tools include BuzzFeed, NBC News, Time Inc., ESPN, MLB, Flipboard, Etsy, Foursquare and Path.

Some CNN Social Media Accounts Hacked (CNN)
Some of CNN’s social media accounts and blogs were compromised Thursday. The affected accounts included CNN’s main Facebook account, CNN Politics’ Facebook account and the Twitter page for CNN. Blogs for Political Ticker, The Lead, Security Clearance, The Situation Room and Crossfire were also hacked.

Facebook Message Notifications Now Alert Users When Their Friends are Online (AllFacebook)
Facebook already alerts users when their friends are online in its chat sidebar, and it now appears to have extended that feature to its notifications section for messages. Reader Or Fialkov of Fialkov Digital shared a screenshot, in which green dots appear next to the names of friends who are currently online.
