Robin Leach Kicks Off Las Vegas Review-Journal Era With Panache

His first column is written by someone else - magician Criss Angel.

Leave it to Robin Leach to put a unique stamp on his first month of service with the Las Vegas-Review Journal. Because his decision to move over from cross-town rival the Sun coincides with his annual summer vacation in Italy, he has lined up a series of guest columnists to keep the seat warm in July.

Up first is magician Criss Angel, who retraces the genesis of his new show Mindfreak Live! and shares some intimate details about dealing with his young son’s cancer diagnosis. At the top of the June 30 column, there is a brief note from Leach. It reads, in part:

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am with this new affiliation. We have much to look forward to and explore in the future months as we use expanded resources and technological advances to take Vegas 24/7 to the world…

This August, we’ll re-launch an entire new look for the Best of Las Vegas celebrating its 35th anniversary. We hope to be able to web-broadcast those awards for the first time this fall and follow with a new weekly magazine.

Leach will turn 75 in August. In a separate interview with our sister publication The Hollywood Reporter, he says he has no intention of retiring. The summertime guest-columnists approach is one that Leach also relied upon at the Sun.
