Rick Dees Announces His Return to LA Radio

On May 4th, Rick Dees will throw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium before an afternoon game with the Chicago Cubs, just hours after logging his opening show on 92.3 Hot FM. By officially taking over from recently departed morning man Victor Zaragoza, Dees is returning to the major market that made his name.

Dees has never really gone away, continuing to host syndicated program The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40, alongside son Kevin’s separate The Teen Top 20. But he has been absent from the local LA market since April 2009, and plans to bring back to Rick Dees in the Morning familiar bits such as “candid phone” and “Dees sleaze.” Per his website announcement:

Clear Channel Los Angeles head of programming John Ivey commented, “We asked Hot 92.3 listeners who their favorite radio personalities were and the two most mentioned were Art Laboe and Rick Dees. With Rick starting the day with his infectious humor and old school hits and Art ending the day with requests and dedications, we are going to have some very happy listeners.”

Dees, who last month celebrated his 51st birthday, has also been dabbling recently with online radio, via Dees Digital Network streams. Welcome back, Rick!
