Recruit From Within, Or Not?

One of those things you feel like you “should” know but maybe never saw spelled out in black and white is where do you get your candidates?
Workforce has a great primer up on the pros and cons of recruiting from within versus hiring from the outside. In short: the pros and cons don’t outweigh each other, and you’ve got to decide what makes the most sense for your company and for each open position. Though recruiting from within may take less time upfront, that person may need more time to ease into a management role, whereas hiring an outside candidate who already has managing experience may be able to dive right in. On the other hand, hiring outsiders may make current employees feel as if there’s no room for advancement at your company.
