Publishers Are Challenged With Monetizing eBooks: Aptara

Sixty-four percent of publishers are selling books in an eBook format, according to a new study from Aptara, up 11% from last year’s survey.

The study, which included more than 600 publishers across trade, professional and education markets, also found that publishers are having difficulty monetizing their eBooks because of the cost of digital production. Sixty-two percent of those interviewed said that they were unable to calculate return on investment from eBooks and 14% said that they are seeing a larger return on investment on digital versus print books.

Formatting is one of the main problems for publishers surveyed.
