OpenSky, Launching This Week, Turns Authors Into 'Tastemakers'

OpenSky claims to be the answer for an author who wants to reach out to the masses without the traditional gatekeepers of publishing.

It’s not another self-publishing/POD system. Instead, OpenSky lets authors become “tastemakers” and recommend tie-in products to sell with his or her books, reports the LA Times.

So a cookbook author sells his books but also recommends a specific brand of knives, barbecue sauce, grill, whatever. A novelist whose book is set in a certain town can recommend hotels or local delicacies.
