Newspapers Flip Lower Class Readers, Democracy The Bird
The NYT reports this morning that newspapers have grown tired of shelling out stockholders’ hard- … well, earned cash to try to lure non-wealthy readership. Instead, papers are focusing on gaining and retaining a smaller, “better” circulation.
Buried deep in the piece is the fact that the LAT leads the nation in declining readership (and they said this town isn’t a news leader). But what’s missing from the piece is any talk about what effect this business strategy will have on democracy.
