Netflix Now Creating Original Programming – Could Amazon Be Next?

Netflix outbid several major studios this week when it bought the rights to the new series from David Fincher & Kevin Spacey, House Of Cards. It’s rumored that Netflix has committed to 26 episodes with an estimated cost of over $100 million USD.

This is the biggest gamble that Netflix has taken in its 14 year history, and is also a surprise turnaround. Netflix had tried to create original programming before, but eventually threw in the towel and closed its development department.

So when will Amazon follow suit, do you think? We’ve already seen Amazon take the step from selling ebooks to publishing them, and Amazon also sells music, TV shows, and movies. Amazon streams content, too. So wouldn’t you think the obvious next step would be for Amazon to make its own shows?
