National Enquirer Sticks It to the ‘Lamestream Media’

Following Trump's Election Day victory, tabloid hoists the 'AMI-rite?' flag.

NationalEnquirerThanksgivingIssueDuring the 2016 U.S. election campaign, Donald Trump received media endorsements from a small group of newspapers including the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Florida Times-Union and the National Enquirer. Now that the results are in, there’s been some gloating at the AMI, Inc. publication. And who can blame them?

Here’s how a recent celebratory article began:

In our quest to scrutinize the candidates, the Enquirer drove light years ahead of the lamestream media-and it wasn’t until President-elect Donald Trump’s landslide victory on Nov. 8 that our clueless rivals FINALLY caught up with reality!

We know. It wasn’t a landslide… more like a mudslide. Still, the Enquirer, Review-Journal and Times-Union are to the media establishment what Scott Baio, Jon Voight and Tim Allen are to Hollywood.

When the Enquirer polled its readers in May, 58% voted for Trump. Later, in July, when the FBI announced it would not be prosecuting Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server while serving as Secretary of State, that number went up to 83%. The Enquirer’s final reader poll, conducted in late October, tallied up at 66% for The Donald.
