Move Over Twitpic

Twitter to launch photo-sharing service

Twitter will release a photo-sharing service to rival the likes of Twitpic, Yfrog, and Instagram, TechCrunch reports. The official announcement is expected to come as early as today during the D9 Conference in California.

There are no details about what form the photo service might take, but some see Twitter’s July 2010 acquisition, twimg.com, as a likely conduit. Those watching Twitter's development are not surprised that the company would make a foray into the photo-sharing sphere, further solidifying its position at the helm of the microblogosphere.
