Boston Globe: The Boston Globe‘s largest union tonight narrowly rejected $10 million in wage and benefit cuts, and about an hour later the paper’s owner declared an impasse in negotiations and imposed a 23 percent pay cut on the union’s members, effective next week.

NYT‘s coverage: Many guild members who opposed the package said they did so believing that further negotiations might result in a better deal.

“I can see the day, maybe 20 years away, where you don’t actually have paper and ink and printing presses,” Rupert Murdoch in Guardian here.

You’ve seen what happened at NBC – there are a couple of people at every news organization that are irreplaceable. Tim Russert is in that category and Bob Schieffer falls in that category. The good news is he’s as energized and engaged as he’s been in the last 10 years.”
