fring for iphone_219.jpgStill consider a cell phone with Internet access and a data plan a luxury? Well, according to a survey Nielsen conducted on behalf of Tellabs, more and more consumers are starting to consider it a necessary part of life.

The survey found that roughly 71% of consumers in the US expect to use a mobile data service on a daily basis, says a MediaPost report on the study. Also, 48% of current mobile Web users expect to increase their usage over the next 12 months, and 55% expect to grow their use of mobile data services over the next two years. Out of those who have yet to surf the mobile Web, 29% plan to start within the next year.

It’s not all fun and games, either. Actually, the results show that 61% of mobile data consumers use the device for e-mail, 56% for MMS and 71% access the Internet.
