Meredith Installs Schimel in Digital Media Role

Tom Harty has made his first big hire since becoming president of Meredith’s National Media Group, and not surprisingly, it has to do with transforming the company digitally.
Liz Schimel was named to the new position of evp of consumer relationship management and digital media. In her new role, she’ll be charged with pushing the company’s tablet computer and mobile initiatives forward.

Meredith is planning to enter the tablet arena this November, with a Better Homes and Gardens app.
Schimel comes from a digital background, having most recently led entertainment services at Nokia and before that, developing Internet products and services for Comcast Interactive Media.
She will report to Andy Sareyan, whom Harty recently promoted to president of consumer brands. He now oversees Ladies’ Home Journal and Family Circle in addition to Better Homes, Parents, More and digital media, among other areas.
Sareyan also joined the board of Next Issue Media, the publishing company e-reader consortium that Meredith formed with Time Inc., Hearst, Condé Nast and News Corp. He fills the board member spot vacated by Jack Griffin, who recently left Meredith to become CEO of Time Inc.
Harty is also working on hiring the company’s first chief technology officer.
