As well we know, the Internet has played havoc on the established career ladder for journalists — kids these days may well choose the occasionally free-wheeling world of blogging over a daily slog at stodgy, dying print publications. The New York Times‘ Alex Williams, therefore, has rounded up nine stars of the New York gossip-blog world.

And what do you know: All nine of the up-and-coming bloggers profiled work for mediabistro.com!

Okay, okay, April Fool’s, etc. None of the Times‘ featured bloggers currently work for mediabistro.com. However! Williams mentions mediabistro.com’s hotness in passing, as a matter of established fact that requires no additional investigation:

As more gossip action in a variety of fields moves online, young writers who might have hungrily chased an editorial assistant job at Cond&eacute Nast a few years ago now move to New York with the dream of making it as a blogger — either launching their own blog into the big time, a la Perez Hilton, or getting snapped up by a prominent blog network like Gawker Media or MediaBistro. (emphasis added; do somethin’!)

The story is based on a questionnaire Williams sent (U.S. Census style) to bloggers to talk about themselves, their vital stats and their personal preferences (Playboy centerfold style).

After the jump, we meet The New York Times‘ actual Nine Riders.

Williams cautions that the list is “by no means exhaustive.” Here it is anyway.
