Suspicious, Beeping Package Forces Evacuation of KNX, KFWB and K-Earth

It was anything but a typical Tuesday morning at the Wilshire Blvd. headquarters of KNX 1070 Newsradio and friends. Per a dispatch by LA Times reporters Kate Mather and Richard Winton:

The office was cleared after a beeping package was dropped off at a second-floor lobby about 8:20 a.m., according to Los Angeles police. A bomb squad is en route.

KNX’s Randy Kerdoon (pictured) tweeted that two packages were discovered and confirmed one was beeping. “Ive never been part of BREAKING NEWS before, COVERING it yes, part of it no,” Kerdoon tweeted. “Just another surreal day in LA.”

The evacuation forced KNX to go off the air and patch in a simulcast feed from KCBS in San Francisco. The staffs of K-Earth 101 and KFWB 980 AM were also evacuated from the building. More to come.

Update – 09/25/12: KNX employee Jonathan Serviss just tweeted this picture, with the message: “And here they are folks, the suspicious packages that knocked @KNX1070 off the air for over an hour. All clear here.”

Update – 09/25/12: Per a report from Variety’s Cynthia Littleton, the above clocks were part of a special promo package publicizing the new BET late night talk show Don’t Sleep with T.J. Holmes. Ouch.
