Myspace CTO Dabbles in Israeli Internet Radio

Although the size of LA’s Israeli community is up for debate, the number of Internet radio stations aiming to serve it is not. According to an article in TRIBE magazine, the trio of current San Fernando Valley located outlets consists of IsraLa.com, GaleiLA.com, and Radio Kol America (RKA).

In the case of RKA, the station was launched in May 2010 by Tal Orio Gerloy, a female correspondent for the Yedioth Ahronoth daily newspaper, fellow Israeli journalist Yanirk Dekel, and his life partner Alex Maghen. Magen also happens to be CTO of Myspace Music, which greatly sweetened the equation. Per the TRIBE article:

“Trying to start something like this without having the know-how from a technical or legal perspective, two things that I bring to the table, make you think it’s an extremely expensive business to run,” said Maghen, the station’s chief technology officer. “Nowadays, you can do amazing things without it costing a bloody fortune.”

The jury is still out on whether or not any of these fledgling enterprises will find a way to make a profit. Among the personalities on RKA is LiAmi Lawrence, self-described as “the nicer Howard Stern” and also apparently is the person who first brought Chippendale’s to Israel.
