Hotmail Getting Exchange ActiveSync - But, Windows Mobile Only Supports One Exchange ActiveSync, So...

For the last five or so years, the following Microsoft mystery baffled me: Why doesn’t Microsoft provide a free cloud based sync solution for Hotmail, its associated contacts and calendar? This would solve the problem of misfiring ActiveSync and WMDC sessions with Outlook. Google figured this out last year when they licensed Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync technology to provide clould sync from Google’s own email, contacts, and calendar cloud solutions to the iPhone, Android phones, and even Microsoft’s Windows Mobile phones.

In 2010, Microsoft is apparently ready to deploy their own Exchange ActiveSync technology solution.

Exchange ActiveSync to arrive on Hotmail on Monday (CNET)

Nothing is said in the article about syncing contacts and calendar events with the cloud, however. We’ll have to wait and see.

FYI: If you have a Windows Mobile 6.5 (or older) phone that already syncs with Google Sync or your firm’s Exchange Server, you can’t sync to Hotmail. Windows Mobile only supports a single Exchange ActiveSync account.
