Hollywood Big-Wigs Pay Big Bucks for Parenting Advice

Hollywood is different than the rest of the world. Proof is offered by Lori Gottlieb’s piece in the NYT about baby gurus popular among celebrities and entertainment executives.

People with more money than sense pay someone to teach them how to get the kids to sleep, how to get them to use the toilet, and other basic skills of parenthood. According to the story, rather than hired nannies, showbiz movers and shakers prefer to pay for expert advice, and then form cult-like groups around these experts.

Don’t think for a second that all this expenditure means power-suited parents spend any more time with sticky, stinky little children. Less appealing tasks, like getting rid of headlice, are also farmed out.
