Hillary Clinton Doesn’t Care Whether You Like Her Outfit

OK, we know we live in an era characterized by bad-faith political polarization that borders on complete inertia, but we still feel like we can reach agreement on one point: Hillary Clinton does not mess around.

In the wake of the viral tumblr hit Texts from Hillary, serious journalists like ourselves have sought new ways to make light of the fact that the Secretary of State is kind of a badass–and the Boston Review found a good one this week with a saucy excerpt from a two-year old interview with a couple of clueless talk show hosts in Kyrgyzstan:

“Interviewer: Were you scared to come to Bishkek after the explosion that we had?

Hillary Clinton: No, not at all.

Interviewer: Okay. Which designers do you prefer?

Hillary Clinton: What designers of clothes?

Interviewer: Yes.

Hillary Clinton: Would you ever ask a man that question?

Interviewer: Probably not. Probably not.”

Alright then! We’re trying to think of another American politician with such a convincing sense of chutzpah, but no one comes to mind.

So what’s Hillary’s PR secret? How did she manage to transform herself from a frequent object of partisan rage and a key player in the nation’s most prominent political PR debacle in decades–if not centuries–to become America’s most respected politician with a truly impressive approval rating of 66%? We think it comes down to a certain je ne sais quoi that she learned over decades spent in the political trenches: Show folks that you aren’t phased by their dumb questions and irrelevant opinions and they will respect you for it. Maybe she could give Mitt Romney a few hints.
