GENERAL NEWS REPORTER: The Beverly Hills Courier, the leading newspaper for Beverly Hills and the Westside, seeks to add a full-time experienced reporter to join its current news team in covering Beverly Hills city government, politics, commissions, and civic affairs. The position will report to our city news editor. This position is full-time. Experience required: at least three years full-time reporting, preferably for a combination of a very active community newspaper and a small daily. Former full-time staff of the Los Angeles Times need not apply.

You must have an out-going personality, be able to report accurately and completely, and be prepared for investigative reporting assignments. We do not practice “viewpoint journalism.” “Viewpoints” are left to our editorial page. The Courier is the dominant media outlet in Beverly Hills. It’s readership has grown every year and continues to increase. We prize the quality of our serious reporting, but you must also recognize that we are a community newspaper and our task is to cover all of the community. This requires a willingness to get to know the people in the community, our organizations, our history, and the unique character of Beverly Hills. Your stories will also appear on www.bhcourier.com, our website which is updated a minimum of three times per day. We now have over 100,000 independent visitors each month with over 1.4 million hits, and over 45,000 regular users (according to Google) who have bookmarked or directly entered our website. We subscribe to Agence France Presse and City News Service. Our stories have been posted on foxnews.com, Drudge Report and picked up or referred to by the New York Times, CBS News, Los Angeles Times, and other publications. The Courier occupies a unique position of trust and influence in Beverly Hills and we take seriously the responsibility of preserving and enhancing that position. Thus, we seek a serious reporter with well-honed skills. The position absolutely requires familiarity with Quark or Indesign as you will be doing most of the preliminary layouts for your articles and pages. (Our reporters and editors prepare the basic pages; our production staff finishes them). Basic input is done by reporting/editing staff. The position will involve covering council and commission meetings that frequently run past midnight. Major events also occur on weekends. M-F 9-5 expectations will not get the job. Reply to email with resume. Beverly Hills is a fascinating, vibrant, active and world-famous city without peer. The Courier reflects that.
* Compensation: Comp for reporters at the Courier ranges from $36,000 – $48,000 per year plus auto allowance and paid vacation. After 90 days, the company pays for one-half the premium for health coverage.
